"Estragon: 'What exactly did we ask him for?'
Vladimir: 'Were you not there?'
Estragon: 'I can't have been listening.'
Vladimir: 'Oh...Nothing very definite.'
Estragon: 'A kind of prayer.'
Vladimir: 'Precisely.'
Estragon: 'A vague supplication.'
Vladimir: 'Exactly.'
Estragon: 'And what did he reply?'
Vladimir: 'That he'd see.'
Estragon: 'That he couldn't promise anything.'"

In this dialogue Estragon announces that they are waiting for Godot since they have asked him for a prayer. The connotation to the prayer relates to religion, and thus, God. This is significant to the diction in the name "Godot," evidently similiar to the word "God." In this conversation Godot is characterized as a very powerful character, for a connection between him and God is clearly shown. The sentence "He couldn't promise anything," emphasizes this idea that he is powerful and has the control to decide what he will do for his friends.
